Sheffield Wednesday have bounced back well from last season's Play-Off heartbreak to grab themselves another Play-Off spot, as we head into the second half of the season.

The Owls are well placed to push on to put pressure on the top two, or at the very least, cement themselves as the highest finishing Play-Off side, to secure home advantage in the second leg.

Carlos Carvalhal has rejuvenated Wednesday over the last two seasons, with the main reason being his expansive style of play, that so many teams have struggled to deal with.

The signing of Fernando Forestieri last season has proved to be a huge catalyst to the Owls' success, his attacking flair has been a source of goals for Wednesday and he has become almost irreplaceable to them.

Not only do Wednesday need to recruit this month, they need to keep hold of their best players and Forestieri certainly comes under that category.

Here, FLW's Chris Wilson will look at two things Sheffield Wednesday must be fearful of this month...

Losing their best players

January is widely regarded as the window where people get desperate and are willing to pay daft money to bring players in. As the window now enters it's latter stages, teams are starting to worry that they can't get players in and they will pay over the odds to get their targets.

There is no doubt that Wednesday's better players will be on the radar of Premier League clubs this month. Forestieri will most likely remain at Hillsborough given he has just signed a new deal, but one man who could attract interest is Tom Lees.

Lees is one of the best centre backs in the Championship, but he is crucial to Wednesday's success.

He provides a solid base for the Owls frontline to build on and it is imperative that they keep hold of him to keep their promotion push going.

Leaving business too late

Wednesday have brought in three players so far this month, in Callum McManaman, Morgan Fox and Sam Winnall, but you get the feeling Wednesday's business isn't done yet.

Carvalhal will be looking to add more to his squad ahead of their promotion run in, but he needs to get the business done soon, or risk paying over inflated prices.

As the window drags out, teams become more reluctant to sell their players as it gives them less time to bring replacements in and if they are to sell, it will only be for a mega price, which Wednesday can't afford to do.
