Steve Bruce has revealed that goalkeeper and fan-favourite Kieren Westwood has been offered a new contract ahead of the end of the season, reports Leon Wobschall of the Yorkshire Post.

But he remained illusive on whether he was confident of the deal being signed, saying that they will have to "wait and see".

Westwood was banished from the first-team under Jos Luhukay during the first-half of the season, not making his first appearance until their clash with Preston North End three days before Christmas.

Since then, he has played 19 times, missing just one match, and keeping 11 clean sheets in the process.

The Owls head into the final match of the season sat in tenth place, with their final clash coming against Queens Park Rangers at Hillsborough.

They sit 24 points clear of the drop zone and seven adrift of the play-off places, making the Sunday match-up a dead-rubber.

The verdict

I think keeping hold of Westwood is a very sensible decision.

He may be 34 but he is still a very good and very reliable performer in the second-tier and Wednesday are not likely to find anyone better.

Now they just have to hope that he decides to accept the new deal.
