The ex-Nottingham Forest midfielder was all set to turn his loan move into a permenent transfer after falling out of favour under boss Slavisa Jokanovic.

If reports are to be believed then the Hornets are currently looking at replacing their manager with a new boss ahead of their first season back in the top-flight, which could mean McGugan is no longer available for transfer.

Jokanovic deemed the 26-year-old surplus to requirments last season and sent the goalscoring midfielder on loan to Wednesday.

After a string of impressive displays Owls boss Stuart Gray had put the permanent signing of McGugan high on his list of transfer priorities ahead of the 2015/16 season.

McGugan who made 22 appearances for the Owls last season has just one-year left on his existing Hornets deal and his performances for Wednesday last season could have attracted other potential suitors.
