Sheffield Wednesday are in advanced talks to loan midfielder Alex Hunt to Oldham Athletic, a report from Football Insider has claimed.
A graduate of the Owls’ academy, Hunt has already made 14 appearances in all competitions for the Yorkshire club.
The 21-year-old spent the first half of this season on-loan with Grimsby Town in the National League, where he scored once in 19 games.
Which club did Sheffield Wednesday sign these 28 midfielders from?
After returning to Hillsborough earlier this month, Hunt signed a new contract with Wednesday on Friday, securing his future with the League One side until the end of the 2022/23 season.
Now however, it seems as though the midfielder could soon once again be on the move this month.
According to this latest update, Hunt is now in advanced talks to join Oldham on a temporary deal until the end of the season, with the club moving quickly to sign the midfielder after his Grimsby loan ended.
Oldham currently sit bottom of the League Two table, four points adrift of safety after what has been a challenging season both on and off the pitch.
This does look like it could be a good move for Hunt to make.
Having just made his return from a spell in the National League, it could be hard for him to force his way straight back into the Wednesday side, given the long list of options they have in midfield.
As a result, a temporary move to Oldham could well make sense, given it should allow him to continue to get the sort of game time he was getting at Grimsby earlier in the season.
For Oldham as well, it seems clear that the Latics do need some reinforcements if they are to have a chance of avoiding relegation this season, meaning it could be important for them to get this deal done as well.
