Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Alex Hunt is attracting interest from two unnamed League Two sides ahead of the 2022/23 campaign, according to a report from The Star.
It is understood that the midfielder's current situation at Hillsborough is being closely monitored by these two teams.
Hunt opted to extend his stay at Hillsborough until 2023 by signing a new contract in January and will be keen to force his way into manager Darren Moore's plans for the new term by impressing in pre-season.
Wednesday opted to sanction two loan moves for Hunt during the previous campaign after he was limited to just five senior appearances in the 2020/21 season.
The midfielder started the term at Grimsby Town and went on to feature on 18 occasions for the club in the National League.
Hunt was then sent out on loan to Oldham Athletic earlier this year to gain some more experience in the Football League.
The 22-year-old played 13 games for the Latics in the fourth-tier as they suffered relegation from this division.
Hunt featured for Wednesday in their pre-season friendly with Alfreton Town last weekend and could be in line to represent the club again when they face Harrogate Town this evening.
The Verdict
When you consider that Wednesday are currently able to turn to Barry Bannan, Dennis Adeniran, Will Vaulks, George Byers and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru for inspiration, Hunt may find it extremely difficult to force his way into the club's starting eleven next season.
Keeping this in mind, it could be argued that the Owls ought to consider sanctioning another temporary move to a League Two side this summer if they do not believe that they will be able to provide him with a sufficient amount of game-time in the coming months.
By joining a club who are willing to play him on a regular basis at senior level, Hunt will be able to keep his career on track.
Providing that the midfielder makes strides in terms of his development away from Hillsborough, he could boost his chances of becoming a key player for the club if he is indeed considered to be part of Moore's plans for the future.
