"Another season finished.✅." Lungo wrote on Instagram.

"Although it was a disappointing end, the support I have seen this season has been a career high for me! Simply outstanding."

"Thank you 🦉."

"Time to rest up ♥️."

Despite Wednesday's season ending in disappointment, it was a decent campaign for Luongo personally.

After struggling for game time in the Championship last season due to injury, making just 12 league appearances, the midfielder had a healthier 2021/22.

Although the Australian international likely feared the worst when he picked up another injury early on in the season, in the end, he went on to feature 25 times for the Owls in League One.

Most of those came in the second half of the season, with the 29-year-old scoring one goal and registering five assists in those matches.

The Verdict

Massimo Luongo can hold his head high after the campaign he had.

Despite Sheffield Wednesday failing in their bid for promotion, the central midfielder was a key player in their fine run of form in the second half of the campaign and to do so after missing most of last season through injury must be greatly satisfying.

What his future holds going forward remains to be seen.

The midfielder is reportedly out of contract at Hillsborough this summer, but surely the Owls will want to keep hold of him after the season he has just had.

It will certainly be an interesting one to watch closely this summer.
