Sheffield Wednesday boss Carlos Carvalhal was delighted to pick up three points yesterday, according to the club's official website.

Sheffield Wednesday saw off already relegated side Rotherham United courtesy of a first half brace from Steven Fletcher.

The Scotland international grabbed both goals in a 2-0 win which halted Sheffield Wednesday's rut and lifted them back into the top six ahead of the end of season run-in.

They leapfrogged Fulham, who were beaten by Derby County at Pride Park.

Carlos Carvalhal praised Rotherham for posing a challenge despite already being relegated.

The Portuguese boss said:

“First of all, let me congratulate Rotherham on giving their all when they were relegated at the weekend.

“In many countries, relegated teams do not play with the same intensity, but not here and not Rotherham.

“They gave everything tonight and we had to deal with long balls, with long throw-ins and corners but we gave a good answer."

Carvalhal also added how pleased he was that the job was done professionally and the three points were secured.

He also praised Steven Fletcher and said:

“We showed our quality with the two goals from Steven Fletcher.

"I am pleased for him and I am pleased for the players and our massive fans.”

Looking ahead to the run-in, Carvalhal shared his thoughts on the upcoming games.

Sheffield Wednesday have four home games in the next six but also face title favourites Newcastle in that time.

Carvalhal said:

“We now have six games to go, four are at Hillsborough and we need the help of our fans in all our games.

“We play Newcastle next – this will be a different challenge and different kind of game but we will be ready, for sure.

“We will be giving everything, we will be doing our best in front of 30,000 fans and most of them will want to see Sheffield Wednesday win the game.
