Sheffield Wednesday are in the midst of a poor run, with Carlos Carvalhal’s side sliding down the table in recent weeks.

Injuries have ravaged the squad and caused the Portuguese boss no end of selection headaches, but the nightmare looks set to continue, with Carvalhal confirming that Kieran Lee is set to go under the knife to solve a minor hip injury.

The midfielder has made fifteen league appearances for the Owls this season, scoring three goals, and will be a huge loss ahead of the busy Christmas period.

Carvalhal revealed the news to Sheffield Star journalist Dom Howson who broke the story on Twitter, with no timescale given as to how long Lee will be sidelined.

The Verdict

What a blow this is for Wednesday.

Yes the Owls have been very poor this season, but sympathy must be given to Carvalhal for the amount of injuries he has been forced to contend with.

Lee has been playing well, and could now miss the entire festive period, putting further strain upon the squad and Carvalhal’s position as Wednesday manager.

Should the Portuguese boss survive until the winter window then he must dip into the market to bolster his squad, as further injuries could spell the end of any small glimmer of hope the South Yorkshire side may harbour of an unlikely top-six finish.
