Sheffield Wednesday Manager Carlos Carvalhal has blamed a bad translation for linking him with a move to the Premier League.

The 50-year-old was quoted as saying that he would be interested if the opportunity arose: "We’ll see what the future holds, if there will be an invitation from a Premier League club - there are already some whispers."

To clarify what he said, he told The Star that the the "Premier League" he mentioned was Portugal's top division and that it was poorly translated. The Portuguese manager says he has no intention of leaving Sheffield Wednesday:

"I never mentioned Premiership and will give £1,000 if they discover the word in the interview. I was asked about some rumours about going back to Portugal.

"He asked me about this and I said ‘no I’m okay, I’m okay in England and my priority is to stay in England.’

"I am not planning to go back to the first league - not to the Premiership... first league means first league in Portugal. The people who translated the situation did a bad translation."

Carvalhal was however more cautious about his long term future.

Wednesday currently sit fifth in the Championship on 68 points, comfortably in a play-off position with six games to go, but the former Sporting Lisbon and Besiktas manager was keeping his cards close to his chest:

"I don’t want to talk about anything until the end of the season. It is not necessary to talk about the future. I just want to focus on my work.

"Sheffield Wednesday winning games is the most important thing."

The Owls face Lee Johnson's struggling Bristol City at Ashton Gate on Saturday, in a game both clubs will be desperate to win, for differing reasons.
