There was more bad news for Sheffield Wednesday as Carlos Carvalhal revealed midfielder George Boyd suffered a setback in his recovery from a shoulder injury. The Scotland international joined the club from Premier League Burnley in the summer, however the injury has restricted him to just four league games for the Owls.

The signing of Boyd was seen a good move by Wednesday, but the midfielder has not featured since September 9. Speaking to the Sheffield Star, Carvalhal said that was because he had to undergo a second operation. “George, after his surgery did an exam and not everything was okay with him and hi shoulder. He had another surgery in the last two weeks. He has come back to recover and now we must wait.”

Thankfully, the latest operation has been a success but it could still be a while until he is back out on the pitch. In his absence, Wednesday have suffered. The Owls have lost three of their last four games and head to Derby tomorrow with the pressure mounting on their Portuguese manager.

The Verdict

This is a blow for Sheffield Wednesday fans who would've had high hopes for Boyd this season. He has genuine quality and was a regular for Burnley in the Premier League last season. It appears as if the latest operation has solved the problem, so now it's about recovering and building up his fitness ahead of his return. With the way Wednesday are playing, they could do with that to be sooner rather than later.
