Owls manager Carlos Carvalhal has heaped praise on Sheffield Wednesday’s new signing Fernando Forestieri.

Forestieri is ‘special’ according to Carvalhal

When speaking to the Sheffield Telegraph, Carvalhal described the 25-year-old as ”a special player”.

He also emphasised the importance of the former Watford player stating, ”Fernando can do different things and we don’t have another player in that position in the squad

”He can link the midfield with the attack. He is important to us”.

Forestieri had just recovered from a hamstring injury to play in the Owls win over Preston before the international break, but Carvalhal admitted he risked playing the Argentinian born attacker after revealing: ”Fernando in our opinion can be important. He was important but he was not 100 per cent.”

The international Break came at a good time for Forestieri, in order to make him 100% match fit ahead of Sheffield Wednesday’s next match at home to Hull City on Saturday.

Forestieri has a history of getting injured having spent numerous spells on the sidelines at Vicarage Road, meaning he never got a consistent run of games.

It will be important that the skillful forward can stay fit and show the Hillsborough faithful what he is capable of.

On his day, Forestieri is unplayable at Championship level but he can equally be frustrating – a run of games throughout the season is likely to indicate just how good Fernando Forestieri is.
