Sheffield Wednesday have got off to a strong start to this year's league campaign, with the Owls currently sat fifth in the Championship table.

Garry Monk has been impressive since taking charge of the club earlier this term, and will be keen to take them forward as the season progresses.

It has recently been reported by the Yorkshire Post that Monk is set to appoint James Beattie as one of his first-team coaches in the near future.

Beattie and Monk worked together at Birmingham City in the past, and the Owls boss is clearly keen to work with the former Southampton striker once again.

It'll be interesting to see how Beattie's appointment as one of Monk's coaching staff will sit with the Hillsborough faithful, especially given that the 41-year-old spent time with their rivals Sheffield United during his playing career.

But one Sheffield Wednesday player that could certainly benefit from working with Beattie this season is Steven Fletcher, who is currently the Owls' top goalscorer with five goals.

Beattie scored 70 goals in 214 appearances for Southampton, as well as 34 goals in 84 appearances for Sheffield United in a successful spell in the Premier League.

The former Blades striker has worked as a coach since his retirement, and has certainly made a positive impact where he has recently worked at.

Most recently, Beattie evidently made a positive impression on Che Adams in his time with Birmingham, with the forward scoring 22 goals for the Blues before departing in favour of a move to Southampton in the summer.

Beattie has also worked with Chris Wood when alongside Garry Monk in the dugout at Leeds, with Wood moving to Burnley after an impressive time at Elland Road.

So, Sheffield Wednesday are going to need a striker that can play a starring role in their somewhat surprising promotion bid this season.

Steven Fletcher could be that player as well, and the Scotsman will surely be delighted to see Beattie arrive at Hillsborough, as he could certainly benefit from learning from a striker that has performed to a high standard in the Premier League in the past.

If Beattie can get the best out of Fletcher as soon as possible, then you have to feel as though Sheffield Wednesday will certainly be in with a shout of winning promotion into the top-flight in the near future.
