There had been a lot of talk and excitement in the build-up to the Sheffield derby last night, which finished 0-0 at Bramall Lane.

As always leading up to the game, there had been a lot of talk about which side could rule the city and who boasted the better players.

And, one comparison that seemed to really divide Sheffield centred on who the superior player was between United's Fleck and Wednesday's Bannan.

The duo are both key figures for their respective sides and are similar in their style of play.

However, Owls striker Gary Hooper clearly didn't think there was much to debate, taking to twitter shortly after Sky had mentioned the pair last night.

His post clearly implies he thinks his teammate is the better player but Bannan's influence on the game last night was minimal.

In fairness to the Scotland international, Wednesday's defensive approach meant he had to work hard without the ball and he couldn't really influence the game in the final third.

Meanwhile, Fleck had a good game in the middle of the park for the Blades, although they didn't do enough to secure a win.

The Verdict

It's no surprise to see that Hooper thinks his own teammate is better and in fairness he is a quality player at this level.

But, so is Fleck and he had more influence on the game in a creative sense last night.

However, it's unfair to judge them in a one-off, particularly as Jos Luhukay set the side up defensively, meaning this debate will continue to go on over the season.
