Sheffield Wednesday fell to a home defeat last night as Middlesbrough took all three points away from Hillsborough.

Two quickfire goals in the second half from Mo Besic and Brit Assombalonga proved enough for Boro, despite seeing Adam Reach hit back with 10 minutes to go to give the Owls hope heading into the final stages of the game.

It was not to be though for Wednesday, and goalscorer Reach was left frustrated at the mistakes which he believed cost the Owls the game.

"It was really frustrating. We were all disappointed because we didn't think we were outplayed." Reach told the Sheffield Star.

"We made a couple of individual errors, which is unlike us. We haven't done any of them this season. Unfortunately when you make them against a team with Middlesbrough's quality you are going to get punished.

The win for Tony Pulis' men saw them climb back to the top of the Championship, although both West Brom and Sheffield United will have a chance to usurp them once more when they get underway this afternoon.

And Reach added he believes his former club Boro will be right in the mix come the end of the season, adding:

"Middlesbrough are a good side and they are going to be in the top six, if not the top two, so we have to take the positives that we played well at times but we have to learn from our mistakes as well."

The verdict

Reach certainly has a point. The Owls gave away soft goals and it ultimately cost them. They simply cannot afford to do that.

He's bang on his assessment of Boro too. It would be a huge surprise to see them not top the table or be there or thereabouts come May.
