Joe Wildsmith has opened the door on a potential loan move once the January transfer window opens.

The 23-year-old has been battling back from a serious knee injury but made his comeback for Sheffield Wednesday under-23s last week.

Cameron Dawson is seen as Garry Monk's first choice goalkeeper at present, while is seen as the backup option.

That means that Wildsmith could struggle for regular match action at Hillsborough leaving him to ponder a potential short-term departure to get some regular action under his belt.

Speaking to the Sheffield Star, he said: “I have to have a word with the gaffer first and see what his thoughts on the situation are.

“If someone offered me games, I’m not saying I wouldn’t turn it down but I’m not saying I’d go for it. I don’t know what the situation is with the gaffer.
“We’ll make a decision on that and what we want to do. Do you know where these 15 ex-Sheffield Wednesday stars are playing now? Let's find out!
“If the loan move was there I’d obviously see it and have a chat about it.
“I’ve played a couple of games for the under-23s and I want to get a feeler about what the plan is for me.
“If that’s going out on loan, it’s going out on loan. If it’s staying here, it’s staying here. I’ll honour the gaffer’s decision on that.” The verdict It's great news that Joe Wildsmith has returned from injury. After a lengthy spell on the sidelines his focus must be on securing regular first team football - even if it means a short-term move away from Hillsborough. If Wildsmith impresses during a spell away, then there's nothing to say that he can't have a successful career with Sheffield Wednesday.
