Sheffield Wednesday winger Nathaniel Mendez-Laing has told Yorkshire Live that he would love to extend his stay at the club past the end of the current campaign.

The Owls snapped up the 29-year-old on a free transfer back in November and he has since gone on to add another good attacking option into the mix at Hillsborough under the guidance of Darren Moore.

Since joining the Steel City club the former Cardiff City and Middlesbrough man has made three Sky Bet League One appearances and will now be looking to kick on as we progress further into 2022.

Speaking recently, Mendez-Laing was quick to admit that he would love to extend his stay with the club past the end of the season:

"It's a great club, massive, changing room, manager, coaches.

"I am happy here and settled. My family seem to like it here."

The winger is said to only be on a deal which runs to the end of the current campaign, however the Owls are said to have the option to extend the contract by a further 12 months should they wish to do so.

Mendez-Laing has so far been utilised on the left hand side of midfield by Moore so far.

The Verdict

He hasn't played his part in as many games as he would have liked so far, so therefore he needs to use the next few months to prove that he is worthy of a contract extension.

Mendez-Laing certainly has the quality to play at a higher level than League One, so he just needs to go about showing that on a regualr basis.

Wednesday have put a lot of faith into getting him to the club in the first place, so he needs to show exactly why he was brought in.

If he can do that it does seem likely that Moore and co will take up the option, having previously worked hard to get him in to the club in the first place.
