Sheffield Wednesday defender Daniel Pudil believes that the players deserve the criticism for the Owls' poor season so far.

Fans of the Yorkshire club are growing increasingly frustrated with manager Jos Luhukay, with the team struggling in 17th position and just six points above the relegation zone.

More worryingly is their recent form, with Wednesday winning just once in their last nine games and performances have been alarming, with the side shipping goals for fun recently.

That has prompted many fans to call for Luhukay to be sacked, however Pudil told the Sheffield Star that he is an 'easy target'.

"It's not right just to blame the manager. It is about the players as well on the pitch.

"We are playing and we have to perform well and score the goals. It is not just about him. He [Luhukay] is an easy target to blame. He is sitting there and taking charge of the team.

"As a squad, we have to do much better."

The Owls will be looking for a first away victory in over two months when they travel to take on Swansea on Saturday.

The Verdict

Luhukay will probably appreciate the support from an experienced player and the reality is that they do need to improve as a group.

However, a lot of blame for the struggles this season has to go on the manager and ultimately they take the responsibility for how the team does.

And, it's clearly not good enough at the moment and fans are right to be extremely concerned.
