Sheffield Wednesday will be looking to end a three game winless run when they entertain Millwall at Hillsborough tonight.
It’s been a disappointing season so far for the Owls, who sit 16th in the table.
From a personal perspective, it also hasn’t worked out how Jacob Butterfield would’ve envisaged since his move from Derby.
The midfielder joined on loan but has been restricted to just seven appearances this season, with six of those from the bench.
However, speaking to the Sheffield Star, the ex-Barnsley man admitted he has to be patient. “It’s been frustrating but I’ve been in the game long enough now to know how things work. There’s a lot of competition here and some very good players. It is probably one of the strongest areas in the squad. But I believe that I can add something to that.”
Butterfield will hope to get some more game time over the coming weeks and reckons he is taking on board instructions from the manager in order to improve. “I’ve enjoyed working with the manager and we’ve spoken about what he wants from me and I want to learn and grow.”
The Owls have not picked up good results recently and that could prompt Carvalhal to make changes tonight, with Butterfield a potential beneficiary.
His comments and attitude will please all connected with the club. When you aren’t playing and the team are struggling it can be easy to criticise the setup, but Butterfield hasn’t done that.
He now has to impress in training and hope that whenever his chance does come that he takes it and helps Wednesday out of this mess.
