Sheffield Wednesday’s official website have confirmed that Carlos Carvalhal will remain as the club’s head-coach for the 2017/18 campaign, ending speculation surrounding his future at Hillsborough.

Carvalhal’s future with the Owls was in doubt after he once again failed to lead the club back to the Premier League, after suffering play-off disappointment for the second successive year.

However, discussions reportedly took place between the 51-year old and Dejphon Chansiri yesterday, which have led to confirmation that Carvalhal will remain Wednesday’s boss.

It has not been revealed the length on Carvalhal’s contract, but Wednesday’s announcement confirms the Portuguese manager will be in-charge until the end of the 2017/18 season.

Since arriving at Hillsborough in the summer of 2015, Carvalhal has had a positive impact on Wednesday, taking the Owls from a mid-table side and moulding them into one of the Sky Bet Championship’s most feared clubs.

During his first full season at Hillsborough, Carvalhal guided the Owls to the play-off final, which they lost 1-0 to Hull City.

Carvalhal again helped Wednesday to a top-six finish during the 2016/17 campaign, where they suffered a play-off semi-final defeat to Huddersfield Town, meaning the club’s wait for a Premier League return will stretch into an eighteenth season.
