Sheffield Wednesday are looking to add some fresh faces to their squad ahead of their return to pre-season training next week, according to a report from The Star.

It is understood that Owls manager Darren Moore is keen to get his transfer business done early this summer.

Wednesday made their first signing of the current transfer window yesterday as they sealed a deal for Ben Heneghan.

As confirmed by the Owls' website, Heneghan has joined the club on a free transfer and will officially link up with his team-mates on July 1st.

David Stockdale is seemingly set to follow in Heneghan's footsteps by securing a move to Hillsborough whilst Wednesday are currently in negotiations with Hull City over a deal for Mallik Wilks.

Moore is still waiting to see whether Jack Hunt, Nathaniel Mendez-Laing, Massimo Luongo and Joe Wildsmith are willing to accept the new contracts that have been offered to them.

If this quartet opt to move on to pastures new, Wednesday may need to draft in some replacements between now and the end of the window.

The Owls will not be able to call upon the services of Chey Dunkley, Saido Berahino and Sam Hutchinson next season after opting against offering this trio fresh terms last month.

The Verdict

Having suffered defeat in the play-offs earlier this year, Wednesday will be determined to make a positive start to the 2022/23 season.

Set to begin their preparations for the upcoming campaign on Monday, it will be intriguing to see whether Wednesday are able to sign some more players in the coming days.

The Owls are already able to turn to the likes of Lee Gregory, Barry Bannan and Josh Windass for inspiration and thus adding some more extra quality to their squad could result in them becoming legitimate contenders for automatic promotion.

Given that Moore experienced a mixed amount of success in terms of his recruitment in the previous term, he will unquestionably be keen to nail his transfer business this summer.
