Sheffield Wednesday have taken Aberdeen midfielder Jack MacIver, a report from Football.Scotland has revealed.

MacIver has come through the ranks at Aberdeen, and spent time on loan with Scottish fifth-tier side Huntly earlier in the campaign.

The 18-year-old has since been recalled by Aberdeen, and has trained with the Scottish Premiership club's senior side, but has yet to make a first-team appearance for the Dons.

Now it seems as though MacIver could be set for a move south of the border, with Sheffield Wednesday a potential destination.

According to this latest update, the teenager is now on trial with the Owls, as he looks to earn a potential move to the League One club's Under 23s side.

It is thought that Aberdeen will not be offering a contract to MacIver, meaning they would not be entitled to any compensation if Wednesday were to complete a deal for the attacking midfielder.

There are said to be other clubs interested in signing MacIver, but that the Owls have an advantage due to being the first to hand an opportunity to the teenager.

The Verdict

This could be an interesting to keep an eye on for Sheffield Wednesday.

Despite the fact that he is only 18, MacIver does seem to have a decent amount of potential, given he has already worked with Aberdeen's first-team, and is being considered for the Owls' Under 23s side.

With that in mind, it does appear as though the attacking midfielder has the potential to be a useful asset for Wednesday, for quite some time to come.

As a result, that could mean this is a deal worth making, especially given the lack of a need for compensation means it would come with little financial risk as well.
