McGugan enjoyed two successful loan spells at Hillsborough last season, making 29 appearances for the Owls and netting three times.

The midfielder has been deemed surplus to requirements at Vicarage Road following their promotion to the Premier League and Stuart Gray looks set to pounce.

McGugan is entering the final year of his contract with the Hornets and the club would prefer to sell him now to free up space for their own recruitment drive and get a fee for the player whilst they can.

A host of Championship clubs are said to be monitoring the ex-Nottingham Forest midfielder's situation and Wednesday are wanting to wrap up a deal as soon as possible.

Wednesday officials are convinced however that the bid they have made an acceptable one and hope to conclude the deal shortly.
