Sheffield Wednesday's search for a manager is continuing and Tony Pulis has emerged as the latest big name to be linked with the role, according to The Sheffield Star.

Chris Hughton is also believed to be under consideration by the club, and both men would provide continuity to Steve Bruce's tenure.

Upon Bruce's arrival Wednesday improved considerably in defence, and became hard to beat - only losing three of his 18 games in charge.

Both Pulis and Hughton set their teams up in similar ways, so the squad wouldn't take long to adjust to their style of play and the defensive effort required of them.

Like Bruce, both managers have achieved promotion from the Championship - Hughton having done so twice, most recently in 2017 with Brighton - which is what Dejphon Chansiri and the club is aiming for.

Tony Pulis has been out of work since the end of the season after being sacked by Middlesbrough for failing to reach the play-offs.

The Verdict

It would be a surprise to see Tony Pulis move to Sheffield Wednesday. He would be adequate if Wednesday want to finish mid-table but for a club aiming for the play-offs it is unlikely that Pulis is the man to lead him there, after failing to do so with a better squad at Boro last season.

Chris Hughton would be a better option, and something of a coup for the club. He has great experience in turning teams around and would likely get The Owls pushing towards the top end of the division.
