Sheffield Wednesday could be set to launch a move to sign West Ham striker Jordan Hugill this summer.

The Owls are in the market for some new faces as Steve Bruce looks to revamp his squad somewhat, and according to the Sun on Sunday (print edition, 23rd June 2019), Wednesday are eyeing former Preston man Hugill as the ideal signing.

Hugill has struggled for any sort of form since making the move to London after an impressive spell with Preston saw him become one of the most sought after strikers in the Championship.

A loan spell with Middlesbrough followed last season, but again, Hugill struggled to get back to his best and notched only six times in what was a poor campaign on the whole for the Riverside club.

The report also claims that Leeds could well show an interest in Hugill too, should they lose one of their own strikers, such as Kemar Roofe, who is bound to be drawing admiring glances following his excellent form last season at Elland Road.

Hugill will be looking to reignite his career somewhat following his stalled spell with the Hammers, and Steve Bruce's Owls side could represent an interesting option as the club look to replace the goals of Gary Hooper over the summer.

The Verdict

Hugill has almost become a forgotten man in some respects, so a move makes sense.

It's not going to work out for him at West Ham, I think we can all see that, so Wednesday and Leeds are both good clubs for him to consider.

Wages could be a problem, but if a loan move can be sorted then this might be a hurdle both teams can overcome.

Hugill has quality, he just needs a fresh start really and this could be the ideal chance for him to get going again.
