Jake Bidwell is a target for Sheffield Wednesday following his recent release from Championship rivals QPR, it has been reported by Football Insider.

After 130 appearances in all competitions over three years with Rangers, Bidwell is set to leave Loftus Road when his contract expires at the end of the season.

It seems however that it may not be long until the 26-year-old makes his return to the Championship, with Football Insider reporting that the defender is a target for The Owls as they look to strengthen for next season after a strong end to the season under Steve Bruce.

The report also claims that a number of other unnamed Championship sides are interested in Bidwell, whose availability on a free transfer would suit Wednesday due to the pressure of Financial Fair Play regulations that The Owls are working under.

Prior to joining Rangers, Bidwell had made over 200 appearances during five seasons with the club's London rivals Brentford, helping the Bees win promotion from League One in 2014.

The Verdict

This could be a good signing for Wednesday.

Bidwell has plenty of experience in the Championship, but at 26-years-old still has a long career in the game ahead of him.

His availability on a free transfer also helps Wednesday's much scrutinised financial situation, so this feels like a smart move all round for The Owls.
