Sheffield Wednesday have confirmed the signing of Scottish striker Steven Fletcher, Radio Sheffield’s Rob Staton has confirmed on Twitter.
The big striker is being released by Sunderland by manager Sam Allardyce as he looks to reshape his squad for next season, and Fletcher has clearly caught the eye of Owls manager Carlos Carvalhal.
The Scot spent last season on loan with French club Marseille, however did not do enough to impress the Ligue 1 side enough to convince them to make a permanent move.
Owls manager Carlos Carvalhal is keen to add to his squad after they narrowly missed out on promotion last term, going to down to Mo Diame’s winner in the play off final.
Fletcher will join the Owls immediately and link up with his teammates ahead of pre season.
It is a huge statement of intent from Wednesday early on in the transfer market, with Fletcher a proven goalscorer at Championship and Premier League level.
Owls fans, what do you think to this news? Surely happy with this signing? Is he better than what you already have? Let us know in the comments!
