Sheffield Wednesday holding talks with 28-year-old

Although they had a good season this year, Sheffield Wednesday will have been disappointed not to have been able to make it through the play-offs meaning they are subjected to another season in League One.

Therefore, Darren Moore will be looking to do some good business this summer in the hope of strengthening his side and making sure they are able to gain promotion next season.

With that in mind, the Owls are said to be interested in Cardiff City’s Will Vaulks and BBC Radio Sheffield journalist Andy Giddings says the club have held talks with the midfielders representatives.

Vaulks has been with the Bluebirds for three seasons now being a mainstay in the side making 117 appearances in all competitions since he joined the club.

However, he is out of contract with his current club at the end of the month meaning he would be available as a free agent.

Wednesday have been credited with interest in the player before with him being on Steve Bruce’s radar back in 2019.

However, an issue that could arise this time round is the discussion of wages in a deal according to Giddings.

Considering the player would be looking to drop down a level to come to Hillsborough, it would have to be seen whether he would be willing to accept the wages to reflect this.

Quiz: Are these 20 Sheffield Wednesday transfer facts true or false?

The Verdict:

This would be a decent signing for Darren Moore if he’s able to get it done. Vaulks has proven to be a solid player in the Championship therefore suggesting he would be able to add quality to the League One side looking to go up as well.

Furthermore, midfield is an area where the boss will be keen to recruit in due to uncertainty over a number of players in that position. Massimo Luongo, and Nathaniel Mendez-Laing have all been offered contract but it’s yet to be seen who is willing to accept.

Furthermore, following the departure of Lewis Wing at the end of January, the Owls could do with some new names in this department.

The only issue with this transfer will be the wages but considering talks are underway, it will likely become clear pretty soon whether the two are on a similar page.
