Sheffield Wednesday have reportedly opened contract talks with full-back Morgan Fox over a new deal according to The Athletic.

Fox's current deal at Hillsborough is set to expire at the end of this year's campaign, which has seen the Owls move quickly in trying to tie him down to a new contract at the earliest of opportunities.

He has previously been linked with a move to the likes of West Brom and Nottingham Forest, although a move never materialised during the January transfer window.

Fox has been a key member of Garry Monk's squad, and has certainly made an impact at both ends of the pitch, scoring three goals and being on hand to provide one assist in 29 appearances.

The full-back and his Sheffield Wednesday team-mates have struggled to build on an impressive first-half of this year's campaign, and have dropped down the second-tier standings at a rapid rate.

The Owls have only won once in their last eight league matches, which has seen some of the club's supporters voice their displeasure at this dip in form.

It is also claimed that Fox is keen to play in the Premier League in the future, although it remains to be seen as to what stage Sheffield Wednesday are at with their discussions with the defender.

Sheffield Wednesday are next in action on Wednesday evening, when they take on Premier League giants Manchester City at Hillsborough, in the Fifth Round of the FA Cup.

The Verdict:

This is definitely the right call by Sheffield Wednesday.

Fox has really impressed me this season, and I feel as though he is more than deserving of a new contract in the near future.

Sheffield Wednesday will know that they haven't been good enough since the turn of the New Year, and results simply have to improve as soon as possible if they're to keep their faint play-off hopes alive in the Championship.

Fox has been attracting interest from other clubs in the past, so it will have been a no-brainer for the Owls to open talks with him over a new deal.
