Championship side Sheffield Wednesday have a strong interest in Barnsley striker Sam Winnall, according to Sun journalist Alan Nixon.

Winnall is Barnsley’s top scorer so far this season having netted 11 league goals, and last season he bagged 24 goals in all competitions, as he helped the Tykes to a Wembley double as they beat Oxford in the Football League Trophy final before winning promotion via the play-off final.

His time with Barnsley coupled with an impressive spell at Scunthorpe United saw Winnall become an established goal scorer at League One level, but this season the 25-year-old has shown he can make the step up to the second tier.

The striker, who began his career with Wolves, has also played for Burton Albion, Hereford, Shrewsbury and Scottish side Inverness CT.

With Sheffield Wednesday challenging for promotion, Carlos Carvalhal may want to add another natural goalscorer to his Owls side to push the likes of Forestieri, Hooper and Fletcher for their places in the team, and Sam Winnall is that kind of player.
