Sheffield Wednesday's pursuit of Burnley shot-stopper Bailey Peacock-Farrell is proving to be more difficult than first anticipated, and The Owls are now looking at alternatives, as reported by The Sun's Alan Nixon on Twitter.

Despite the struggles that the newly relegated League One side are having in their chase for the 24-year-old goalkeeper, they remain an interested party but are now casting their net wider.

Nixon first reported that The Owls were interested last week, but The Athletic have since reported that Burnley are hoping for Championship suitors for the Northern Ireland international.

Birmingham have also been accredited with an interest in Peacock-Farrell, however, The Blues are set to sign another goalkeeper in Wolves' Matija Sarkic, according to The Athletic.

The Darlington-born man joined Burnley from Leeds in January 2019, after he had lost his number one jersey to Kiko Casilla.

Peacock-Farrell made four Premier League appearances for The Clarets last season, but a loan period is expected to be the next step of his progression.

The verdict

It is certainly wise of Sheffield Wednesday to work on other deals because they would be running the risk of missing out on all that is available if they just restrict themselves to one target.

That being said, Peacock-Farrell would be an excellent signing and would bolster their chances of bouncing straight back to the Championship.

The Burnley shot-stopper enjoyed a great season with Leeds in the Championship during the 2018/19 campaign and will have only improved since then.

Championship clubs now seem well-equipped with goalkeepers, making Burnley's desired Championship move quite a difficult one to pull off.
