Sheffield Wednesday have been dealt a frustrating blow heading into the festive period, which could go a long way in defining their season.

Owls boss Garry Monk has recently revealed that Fernando Forestieri is set to miss Wednesday's next two league games through injury.

"Could be anything between seven and 10 days".

The 29-year-old was forced off at half-time in their win over Charlton Athletic not so long ago, and this injury worry will be irritating for both the player and Garry Monk.

Forestieri has only made nine league appearances so far this season, of which two have been starts this term, which hint that his long-term future could be away from Hillsborough.

With Newcastle loanee Jacob Murphy putting in some strong performances since arriving in the summer, it has pushed Forestieri down the pecking order in Garry Monk's plans.

But it's somewhat understandable that Monk hasn't made too many changes to his side heading into the festive period though, as the Owls look to build some momentum.

They're currently sat sixth in the Championship table, and will be keen to stay in touch with the promotion-chasing pack for as long as possible.

Sheffield Wednesday are next in action when they take on Derby County on Wednesday evening, which will be a tough test of their promotion credentials.

The Verdict:

This will be hugely frustrating for Garry Monk and the Sheffield Wednesday supporters.

We're still yet to see the best from Forestieri, and this latest injury blow couldn't have come at a worse time in this year's league campaign.

He could have been given the game time he needs this season across the hectic festive period, but with yet another injury worry, his days at Hillsborough look as though they'll be numbered.
