Christian Walton could be set to leave Brighton and Hove Albion in January, leaving Sheffield Wednesday on red alert.

The Owls were linked with Walton at the start of last month, as the club look to potentially bolster their options between the sticks.

Keiren Westwood has recently picked up an injury, leaving Joe Wildsmith as their number-one choice at the moment, with Cameron Dawson also waiting in the wings.

Walton has only managed to make four first-team appearances for Brighton since coming through the ranks at the club, enduring loan spells with the likes of Southend, Luton, Plymouth and Bury.

Last season, he was an ever-present in the Championship for Blackburn Rovers, featuring in every one of their 46 league games under Tony Mowbray.

With his contract set to expire at the end of next season, Sussex Live claim that Walton could be set to leave the AMEX Stadium.

The Verdict

It seems inevitable that Walton will leave Brighton sooner rather than later given the amount of options they have to choose from in-between the sticks.

At the age of 25, he needs to be playing regularly rather than spending time on loan here, there and everywhere.

Keiren Westwood isn't getting any younger and perhaps a long-term replacement to properly challenge Wildsmith is needed, but whether Walton would be interested in a move to Hillsborough remains to be seen if regular game time isn't guaranteed.
