It's crunch time for Gary Monk and Sheffield Wednesday, who face a massive Championship six-pointer at Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday afternoon.

The Owls will arrive at Adams Park on a three-match losing run after following up their Hillsborough defeats to both Brentford and Luton Town with an abysmal performance in their South Yorkshire derby loss at Rotherham United in midweek.

Another defeat would guarantee the Owls head into next month's international break still inside the relegation-zone and ensure their worst Championship run since November 2018, when they also lost four on the bounce.

But Wednesday have received some good news ahead of tomorrow's game. Skipper Barry Bannan has responded to the recent interest from Brentford earlier this month, and dismissed any talk of leaving the club.

Are these 10 facts about Hillsborough true or false?

"I'm happy where I am and I love this club," Bannan told Yorkshire Live. "I am the captain of this club and I don't want to get relegated as the captain of this club. I never lost focus. I am here to do a job."

Bannan, who became skipper over the summer, has entered the final 12 months of his contract at Owls, but remains "hopeful" of extending his deal at Hillsborough past next summer.

He continued: "I have been in contact with the club. It's down to my agent and the club to get it sorted. Let's hope something can get done."

The Verdict

This is a major boost for Wednesday. Not only is Bannan now captain, but he's arguably their best and most important player.

If Monk is going to avoid getting the sack in the coming weeks and then overturn their points deduction, he's going to need serious improvements from his entire squad - with the Scottish midfielder at his very best.

However, defeat at Wycombe tomorrow could have major repercussions for the Owls boss, although Wednesday's only two victories this term have both come on the road, which is a good omen for Monk.
