Sheffield Wednesday assistant coach Lee Bullen has claimed that the Yorkshire club are still confident of agreeing new deals with out-of-contract duo Steven Fletcher and Morgan Fox, with neither player having received an offer from elsewhere.

The end of the 2019/20 campaign looks set to be an interesting time for Wednesday with the contracts running out for eight of their senior players.

There have been suggestions of a 'clear-out' from the media, the fans, and manager Garry Monk this season and it appears the contract situation will help them do just that.

Fletcher and Fox are two out-of-contract men they do not want to lose, however, and both have been hugely impressive this season.

The former is, by some distance, the Owls top scorer despite missing a number of games due to injury, while Fox has been very reliable at left-back.

Speaking to the Sheffield Star, Bullen suggested Wednesday remain very confident of securing new deals for both men.

He said: "I'm aware they had initial discussions and that they are ongoing. Luckily with the modern technology around it's very easy to stay in touch with people.

“Both lads have had fantastic seasons, obviously, that's in part down to themselves, but it's also in no small part down to the football club in supporting them.

“Foxy went through a hard time and Fletch last season obviously had one or two injuries and never really got going. This season he's been fantastic, he’s overcome that injury and is coming back to full fitness.

“I think both lads are really happy and their families are really happy, so we are very, very confident that something can be done.

“But ultimately, until something is signed, you just never know. You never know who could come out of the woodwork and offer them something that's out of this world. Talks are positive and well down the road.”

The former caretake manager added that despite reports of interest from elsewhere, neither player had received an offer from another club.

It's been a frustrating season for the Owls, who looked as though they were in with a chance of a top-six finish in late 2019 but have seen those hopes all but evaporate due to some torrid form following the turn of the year.

The Verdict

This update from Bullen is a huge boost for Wednesday and makes it seem more likely that both Fletcher and Fox will sign new deals.

Not only does the club remain very confident over the talks, there has not been any offers from other clubs, which is really good news considering the reports that were circling.

This summer is set to be a really interesting time for the Owls as they look to offload some deadwood and look ahead.
