Changes are likely at Sheffield Wednesday as Jos Luhukay makes the squad his own this summer.

This was a disappointing season for Wednesday fans because the club finished in 15th place after two consecutive seasons in the play-offs. However, a severe injury crisis played a major part in that and it also showed which players aren't fit for purpose.

Luhukay has only had one transfer window to change the team and he opted to be conservative and just bring in Joey Pelupessy. However, the summer transfer window is likely to be a lot different with the focus on cutting down the large wage budget as well.

Here are three players that Owls fans will be happy to see leave...

Fox was increasingly relied upon this season with Adam Reach moving into midfield to cover due to how depleted the squad was. The 24-year-old never really suited the wing-back role due to the attacking license it provided, but he hasn't impressed enough as a full-back which is his natural role.

Luhukay is likely to stick with three at the back in either a 3-4-3 or 3-5-2 formation because it suits certain key players. Therefore, Fox should go because he isn't needed in this current set-up with George Boyd used over him in this role even though he is naturally a winger and isn't defensively-minded.

Matias has been at the club since 2015, but has struggled after an impressive first few games which included a wonder strike against Leeds United. His disciplinary record has been poor with two red cards in 11 games and he has brought little to the team offensively.

The fact that he has only featured in 11 games over the past two seasons suggests that he isn't needed at the club and they don't need someone of his skillset. Selling him would be a smart way to cut the wage budget because he offers little and just restricts the chance of bringing in more players.

It's fair to say that Rhodes has been a flop since joining in 2017. Part of the agreement for bringing him in on loan was that it would be made permanent at the end of the season for £10.53 million, and the gamble failed because he was unable to help Wednesday achieve promotion.

He only has eight goals in 51 games with 31 being starts. This is a poor return for a striker with a big reputation who cost the club a significant amount of money. Rhodes has improved slightly this season, so they might able to recoup a significant part of the fee if they find the right buyer. Wednesday have plenty of other forward options, who are much more prolific, so he needs to go.
