Sheffield Wednesday got their latest managerial era off to a fine start at the weekend as Steve Bruce’s first official game in charge saw them edge Ipswich 1-0.
It wasn’t the most enthralling of games but they all count and Lucas Joao’s late winner sent Owls fans home happy enough from Portman Road.
And, in keeping with that mood, supporters should be pretty content with what Dominic Iorfa has had to say about Steve Bruce’s influence in bringing him to the club.
In an interview with the Sheffield Star, the recent on-loan arrival revealed that he was set to join another Championship side – before Bruce weighed in and convinced him to move to Hillsborough.
“I was originally going to go to another team on loan in the Championship but once I knew about Wednesday’s interest I swayed more to this.
“I wanted to come here after finding out about the manager’s plans. I was delighted to come here and the fact it was a permanent as well means I can settle down and focus on my football.”
Without doubt, this bodes well for the future of the Owls in the transfer window.
Whilst some seem to turn their nose up at Bruce in the game, the majority are rightly of the opinion that he remains a fine manager in the game and one that often guarantees promotion.
Many players will want to be a part of that and that, combined with the obvious draw of a club like Wednesday, should see some decent signings being made – even if finances aren’t as large as they once were.
