Sheffield Wednesday boss Jos Luhukay has revealed that he plans to keep bringing through academy players into the first-team after the success of several youngsters this season.

An incredible injury crisis at the Yorkshire club meant Luhukay was forced to blood several youngsters at various parts of the season - and they coped very well on the whole.

However, with senior players back from injury and new additions expected in the summer, many wondered how that would impact the talented group coming through.

Yet, Luhukay was quoted by the Sheffield Star as saying that it is an aim of his to continuously bring through players from the youth system.

"My hope is every year we can bring one or two academy players into the first team."

"I think that’s very important for developing our young players but also our whole academy to give a boost, for all the players who try to come to Sheffield Wednesday from junior teams and maybe make the step to the first team."

The likes of Jordan Thorniley, Ash Baker, Frederik Nielsen, Connor Kirby and Sean Clare have all made a positive impression this season at Hillsborough.

The Verdict

Fans love seeing younger players given a chance in the first-team and on the whole they've done well for Sheffield Wednesday when called upon.

It shows they have talent coming through and will give the manager food for thought when it comes to building a squad for next season.

The message from Luhukay is encouraging for all Owls fans and players from the youth teams as it shows there is a pathway to the team.
