Sheffield Wednesday are facing an injury crisis with Lucas Joao, Frederico Venancio and Daniel Pudil all currently ruled out of the squad, but Owls fans are keen to see one of their own promoted from the youth team.

Ipswich visit Hillsborough tonight, with both sides marooned in mid table.

The Owls will be seeking the necessary points to fully fight off the spectre of relegation, but their fans have made it very clear who they'd like to see given a chance.

George Hirst, son of Owls legend David, has just two appearances to his name at present, both acquired in the 2016/17 season. He's regularly scored goals at England U17 level right the way through to U20, registering two hat tricks this summer for his country. However, due to ongoing contract negotiations, he hasn't featured for his club, yet.

The 19-year old is out of contract in the summer and has found his first team opportunities to be non-existent. Owls legend Carlton Palmer felt that his reluctance to sign a new deal was purely down to a lack of first team chances.

Palmer told  BBC Radio Sheffield: "They're signing more and more strikers, he's going down the pecking order. He's happy to stay if they let him go out on loan, but they're asking a loan fee for him which is huge and they're not prepared to pay him that in wages. You can't have it one way and the other."

Now Sheffield Wednesday fans are extremely vocal about giving the youngster some game time, especially after he was welcomed back by manager Jos Luhukay. He featured in an U23's game recently and the possibility of him finally appearing at Hillsborough has got fans excited.
