Next season looks like it could be an exciting one for Sheffield Wednesday with Steve Bruce ready to put his stamp on the club.

Having arrived in January, Bruce and his team found the club creeping towards a relegation battle but by the end of the campaign they were making a late burst for the play-offs.

In the end, they fell considerably short of the top-six but enough was shown in those final months to suggest that, given a full pre-season, Bruce could be the man to finally take them up.

But the transfer window will prove crucial. A host of names have already been released by Wednesday and reinforcements will have to be brought in.

And one name recently linked was a bit of a surprise, with Sunderland's Lee Cattermole apparently on Bruce's radar.

However, on Monday it was reported by the Sheffield Star that the club were struggling to justify paying the experienced midfielder's substantial wages.

So, how will the Wednesday fans be feeling about these latest updates?

The Hillsborough faithful will be well aware of their need to strengthen this summer but I do not think this would have been too popular a move.

Fans want to see their club's being progressive and bringing in players who could genuinely make an impact and I struggle to see how Cattermole falls into either category.

So as much as they will want to see changes made at their club, I think they will be relieved that this deal appears to be a no-go.
