Sheffield Wednesday will face an anxious wait over midfielder Kieran Lee's fitness before their home clash against Stoke City, according to reports from the Sheffield Star.

The 30-year-old midfielder was taken off after just 15 minutes in the Owls' under-23 clash with Colchester United on Monday afternoon.

Lee has been out of action since December due to an ongoing hip injury, and was expected to make a return to first-team action soon.

Development squad manager Neil Thompson told the Star: "I have not spoken to the medical staff, Kieran has obviously had one or two issues but that's not for me to say.

"He got some minutes in so we will obviously see how he is tomorrow."

Lee has been a key figure for the Owls over the years, making almost 200 appearances for the club in his seven-year stint at Hillsborough and helping them to back-to-back play-off appearances in 2016 and 2017.

The Verdict

Wednesday could definitely do with Lee's energy and creativity in the middle of the park, therefore Jos Luhukay will definitely be hoping that his injury isn't too serious, and that the substitution was simply precautionary.

The Owls have some tough fixtures on the horizon, and although Lee isn't likely to be fully fit yet, his availability would give everyone associated with Wednesday a huge boost.
