Sheffield Wednesday wish to hold talks with Andre Villas Boas over the vacant managerial post at Hillsborough, according to an exclusive report by The Sun.

The Owls parted ways with Carlos Carvalhal last week after a string of bad results left the club in the bottom half of the Championship table.

And while Carvalhal has since found employment - with Swansea City in the Premier League - Sheffield Wednesday are yet to appoint a new manager.

Villas Boas is currently set to compete in the 2018 Dakar Rally - a motor sport competition - but the Owls want to lure him to Sheffield once he is done.

During his managerial career, the 40-year-old has managed Academica, FC Porto, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, Zenit St Petersburg and Shanghai SIPG.

His managerial honours include winning the Europa League with Porto in the 2010/11 season.

But now Sheffield Wednesday are eyeing an optimistic swoop for his managerial services after he has raced in the Dakar Rally.

The Dakar Rally starts in Peru next weekend and could go until the end of January if he gets to the final stages.

Wednesday owner Dejphon Chansiri is willing to wait to land his man and will hope to commence talks with the Portuguese boss after he is done.

The Verdict

Andre Villas Boas would be a major coup for Sheffield Wednesday but it would have to be a long term project.

Chansiri would have to offer him a lucrative pay packet to even come close to his wages in China and he would need to be promised a big transfer budget to bring his own players in.

Whether the Owls can pull this off remains to be seen but it seems that they are willing to remain patient this season in order to kick on next term.
