Sheffield Wednesday eye double transfer swoop

on

Sheffield Wednesday are said to be eyeing the additions of two new centre backs this month, as per a recent report by Yorkshire Live.

The Owls are currently injury hit in defence, with the likes of Sam Hutchinson, Dominic Iorfa, Chey Dunkley and Lewis Gibson all currently on the sidelines at Hillsborough.

As a result the Steel City club are now scouring the market for defensive reinforcements, with loanees looking like their best port of call at this current time.

Wednesday are said to hold an interest in Brighton & Hove Albion centre back Haydon Roberts, with Darren Moore said to be keen on a temporary agreement for the former England youth international.

The club also tried to sign former Crystal Palace and Watford defender Adrian Mariappa back in November, before the player eventually decided to move to Australia instead.

Quiz: Can you name which club Sheffield Wednesday signed these 28 midfielders from?

Meanwhile Wednesday are also said to be eyeing a direct replacement for Theo Corbeanu, with attacker having recently joined Milton Keynes Dons on loan after being recalled from Hillsborough by his parent club Wolves.

The Verdict

It has been clear for quite some time that Wednesday need to add numbers to their defence and now it appears that the wheels are kicking into motion as they seek to bring in some new faces.

The loan market seems to be their best bet right now and it will be interesting to see what types of players they bring in, if any at all.

January is a traditionally tough month to do business in, so it won’t be an easy task for Moore and his staff to get their teeth into moving forwards.

However they do have time on their side, so it appears likely that some signings will be made by Wednesday as they seek to start moving in the right direction.
