Sheffield Wednesday were handed a welcome boost with Tom Lees getting much-needed minutes under his belt for the Owls' Under-23's side this week.

Lees hasn't featured for the Owls first team since late August, when his side were beaten by Preston North End at Deepdale, so he'll be keen to make up for lost time.

Speaking in an interview with Sheffield Wednesday's official website, Lees revealed that he was pleased to get through a game without picking up a reoccurrence of his injury.

"Today for me was all about getting back used to that game speed and regaining that sharpness in your decision making for when you are out on the pitch.

"I’ve been doing a lot of running and fitness work but a game is completely different and I’m pleased I’ve come through it feeling OK so that’s good."

Lees is Sheffield Wednesday's captain, and insisted that he was keen to pass on his experience to the Owls Under-23's side during the game earlier this week.

The 28-year-old also issued an update on his progress, as he continues his recovery from an injury lay-off.

"It can be difficult for the Under-23s when you get lads coming down from the first team so it is important when we do drop down that we help and pass on what we can to help make their game better.

"I’ve just got to keep working hard. I’ll continue to follow the plans that have been put in place for me and do everything I can to make myself available."

It remains to be seen as to whether Lees will be available for selection for Garry Monk's first team this weekend, but he'll be hoping that he doesn't suffer any setbacks in his recovery.

Sheffield Wednesday are next in action on Saturday when they take on Swansea City, in what will be a tough test for Garry Monk's men against one of their promotion rivals.

The Verdict:

It's an ideal time to have him returning to action.

Lees has really impressed me when he's been involved in the Sheffield Wednesday first team, and his experience and leadership qualities will be of real use to Garry Monk's squad heading into the festive period, which could make or break their season.

I'm not sure he'll go straight back into the starting XI though, as Julian Borner and Dominic Iorfa have struck up an impressive partnership in the heart of the defence in recent weeks.
