Sheffield Wednesday head into tomorrow’s FA Cup replay at Kenilworth Road with a double injury blow.

Caretaker manager Steve Agnew takes his side to League One highfliers Luton Town on the back of a damaging defeat last weekend to in-form Hull City.

The Owls will head to the outskirts of London with a double blow to their squad with Agnew confirming in a pre-match press conference that Sam Hutchinson and Joey Pelupessy are highly doubtful.

Defender Hutchinson is rated “50-50” by Agnew with the Dutch midfielder having a “slight ankle injury” that could keep them both out of the game.

Luton are second in the third tier after last weekend’s draw with Sunderland at the Stadium of Light and could have their replay plight aided with the absence of the Owls’ duo.

“Sam Hutchinson is 50-50, he took a whack in the game and is sore this morning, there is also a doubt,” Agnew said.

“Joey Pelupessy who has a slight ankle injury so we will have to see with those two.”

The verdict

This is a big blow for Sheffield Wednesday, but would both have played if they were fit anyway?

Replays are the bane of many a football manager’s life, and with the league remaining the priority, then Steve Agnew could well have decided to rest the pair.

But with that option potentially out of his hand, then the Owls will have to make do with what they have in what is set to be arguably trickier than the original tie against Wednesday at Hillsborough.

Considering the Owls got routed 3-0 at Hull on the weekend, whoever is in the side will need to put on a display to make up for the poor performance last time out.
