Sheffield Wednesday could potentially see Theo Corbeanu recalled by Wolves in the January transfer window with him struggling to make an impact at Hillsborough, according to The Athletic.

Corbeanu was one of the host of new signings that Darren Moore made in the summer to bolster his squad ahead of their League One campaign.

The attacker arrived on a season-long loan deal from Wolves and The Athletic report that the Owls beat competition from Lincoln City and Crewe Alexandra to sign him.

The 19-year-old though has managed to make just three League One appearances for the Owls so far this term with all of those coming from the bench. Corbeanu has not made an appearance in the third tier since the 1-1 draw with Shrewsbury Town last month.

According to the latest update from The Athletic, Wolves hold the option to potentially recall the forward in January and then have the option to look to send him out on loan elsewhere.

It is believed that is something that Wolves are going to be prepared to do if Corbeanu can not force his way into Sheffield Wednesday’s side more regularly between now and the winter window opening.

The verdict

This would not come as too much of a surprise because for one reason or another Corbeanu has not been able to impress Moore enough in training or his limited appearances to earn more game time this season for the Owls.

Sheffield Wednesday have had other attacking options who have delivered strong performances at times this season so far, but there is certainly still places up for grabs in their strongest possible line-up considering their form has been up and down.

All is not lost yet for Corbeanu at Hillsborough, but he will have to start making some progress soon and that will come down to both him doing more to impress and Moore handing him the chance if he does perform well in training.

Losing the attacker would mean the Owls would need to find a replacement in January, so they have to decide whether that is the route they want to go down.

From Wolves’ perspective, it would make little sense to keep Corbeanu at Sheffield Wednesday in January if he is not featuring.
