Sheffield Wednesday are one of the favourites to press ahead for promotion this season and after bringing in some solid players over the summer, you can see why Carlos Carvalhal’s team could be one of the favourites.
The Owls fell at the final hurdle last season but there should be renewed optimism in the Wednesday camp that this season could be the one, despite a fairly lacklustre start to the campaign.
Despite some of their rivals spending mega-money over the summer months, Wednesday have invested a little more wisely and signings like George Boyd could be the real difference when the season does roll around this weekend.
But there’s one man we at the FLW think would add even more depth and quality to this current Owls side and that’s Liverpool youngster Ben Woodburn.
The Welsh international has shown on a couple of occasions that he’s got the quality to one day break into this Liverpool first-team for good but right now, we think he’s got to be playing regular football at this stage of his career.
At 17-years-old, he’s young but needs to be playing at the highest level he can. Of course, development will take time but going on-loan to a Football League club could be a really positive move for the forward.
We’ve seen countless young players cut it in the Championship having gone on-loan from their parent Premier League clubs but Woodburn now needs to be playing week-in, week-out.
The Welsh striker has a real burst of pace, knows where the goal is and works hard too. He could be a real option for Sheffield Wednesday and this seems like it could be a move that would work out for both club and player.
And after the disappointing 1-1 draw with Sunderland this weekend, another striking option wouldn’t be a bad shout in the slightest for the Owls.
He’s going to be a very good player in the future but Owls fans, is Woodburn good enough to cut it in the Championship now? Leave your thoughts down below!
