Sheffield Wednesday will look to complete the signing of Christian Walton from Brighton in the New Year.

The Owls have endured a very tough start to the season following their 12-point deduction and they remain bottom of the table and ten points from safety following Saturday's defeat at Wycombe.

And, whilst there have been problems in the XI, boss Garry Monk isn't settled on his number one keeper, with Cameron Dawson was dropped for Joe Wildsmith for the game over the weekend.

Therefore, a new number one could be a priority in January and Football Insider have revealed that Walton is a target for Wednesday.

The 24-year-old has excelled at Blackburn and Wigan over the years on loan but his path to the first-team with the Premier League side seems blocked.

Mat Ryan was surprisingly dropped for last night's defeat at Spurs with Robert Sanchez starting, whilst Jason Steele is another keeper the club have on their books.

So, even though Walton has struggled with injuries in recent months, he would find it very tough to get minutes for Graham Potter's side.

The verdict

This would be a very good bit of business for the Yorkshire outfit as Walton is a good keeper who has his best years in front of him.

He has been commanding and reliable for Blackburn at this level and would certainly be an upgrade on what Wednesday have in goal right now.

Fans will rightly say that other positions may be more pressing though and the opening weeks of the campaign suggest the club need to be very busy in January.
