Sheffield Wednesday are interested in Derby County's Jack Marriott as they search for a new striker before tomorrow's transfer deadline.

The 26-year-old has had a tough time at Pride Park since moving from Peterborough, managing just 13 goals in 72 games over the past few years, although it should be said that injuries have disrupted his progress.

And, he could be on the move from the Rams, with Sun reporter Alan Nixon revealing that the Owls are keeping tabs on Marriott as they look to strengthen Garry Monk's squad.

Whilst Phillip Cocu is currently short on options up top, despite the signing of Colin Kazim-Richards today, the update claims that the boss may be open to sanctioning this deal if it helps bring someone else through the door.

Marriott has scored one goal in four games for Derby this season but Cocu admitted that the striker hasn't been 100% fit and still isn't ready to complete a full game.

If the deal does go through by 5pm tomorrow, Marriott could make his Owls debut at Birmingham City on Saturday.

The verdict

You can't imagine that Derby will even entertain losing Marriott unless they get at least one proven striker in, so this update suggests they may be making progress on that front.

As for Wednesday, they are desperately lacking a finisher and the ex-Luton man could be exactly what they need as he plays on the shoulder, scores goals and is a constant threat.

So, it could be a very interesting day ahead for these two and it shows there is a lot of work going on behind the scenes by the clubs.
