Paul Cook is under consideration to replace Garry Monk as manager of Sheffield Wednesday, according to the Daily Mail.

Last night, Wednesday confirmed in a club statement that they had parted company with Monk, after a disappointing start to the Championship season.

Wednesday started the season on -12 points following a points deduction inflicted by the EFL, but this has recently been halved and they now sit two points adrift of safety.

Results have been poor nonetheless, though. The Owls have won only three of their opening 11 games this term, and have lost five games.

According to the Daily Mail, Paul Cook is now among the names under consideration to replace Monk, with Wednesday looking to make an appointment sooner rather than later.

Cook has been without a job since leaving Wigan Athletic at the end of last season, with the Latics entering administration after having points deducted on the final day of the season.

It is claimed that Cook would be 'very keen' on taking the job, according to Alan Biggs. therefore hinting that an appointment could be on the cards.

The Verdict

I think that Wednesday and Cook could be a perfect fit.

Cook did a fabulous job at Wigan, building an excellent group that had fantastic spirit last season, and they should have avoided relegation at a canter if it wasn't for the points deduction.

Wednesday need someone who can pick up results immediately, and I'd back Cook to hit the ground running if he became their new manager.
