Sheffield Wednesday have appointed Mike Trusson as assistant manager, the club have confirmed.

The Owls have been looking for a number two since naming Tony Pulis as their manager earlier this week, replacing Garry Monk.

The 61-year-old is vastly experienced after a long career in the game as a player, coach and a scout.

During this time Trusson has worked with Pulis on numerous occasions and it was his relationship with the Welshman that was key in convincing him to move to South Yorkshire.

Speaking to Sheffield Wednesday's official website, Trusson said: “I’m delighted and massively looking forward to it, it’s a great challenge.

“I’ve known Tony for a long time, we played against each other as players and got to know each other through kicking each other really!

“We both moved to Gillingham at the same time, then Tony went to be assistant at Bournemouth and eventually became manager when Harry Redknapp left. Then he asked me to come over and I became youth coach and then first team coach at Bournemouth.

“I’ve worked for him as a scout at pretty much every club he’s been at, then I got the call asking if I wanted to be assistant manager at Sheffield Wednesday. It’s a great club and I’m really looking forward to it."

The Verdict

This seems like a shrewd appointment.

While Tony Pulis is a strong character who will command respect, it's always beneficial to have someone who you trust working alongside you.

Trusson will do exactly that and so it'll be interesting to see how the duo get on.
